Technology analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo is out with a new report about the AirPods this morning.
According to the report, we could see an updated version of the AirPods early in 2019. Kuo only mentions an “upgraded model with wireless charging” and improved BlueTooth specs but not much else about the new model. He does mention that AirPods are one of the best selling, revenue generating devices Apple has made in a while.
Wireless charging is interesting since we haven’t heard anything about the AirPower wireless charging mat. Could this signal the imminent release of the AirPower mat? I doubt it, even if I would like to hear some news about it.
Kuo does mention that the AirPods will see an “all-new design” in 2020, but no hints at what will be new. I’d like to see maybe a slimming of the stem, but I know many have issues with the size and fit of the device, so it will be interesting to see what actually comes from this.
I hope we see the updated AirPods sooner rather than later since they were mentioned in the BlueTooth database not too long ago. However, if I were Apple, I wouldn’t release them this late into the holiday buying season without some type of announcement.
If you’re wanting a pair of AirPods and can wait, continue waiting. If you are in desperate need to something like AirPods, go ahead and buy some. See if you can find a good deal on them this holiday season.
