T-Mobile added a new service to help combat spam callers today. The service is called Caller Verification. As the explain,
Caller Verified is T-Mobile’s implementation of the STIR and SHAKEN standards. These standards combat illegal caller ID spoofing, which occurs when scammers temporarily hijack a phone number to match the area code and 3-digit prefix of the person they are targeting, making the incoming call look familiar. T-Mobile was first in the industry to announce readiness for STIR/SHAKEN in November 2018, and today, the Un-carrier became the first in the industry to launch caller verification using the STIR/SHAKEN standards. Once other wireless providers implement STIR/SHAKEN, Caller Verified will work on calls made across networks.

Anything that anyone can do to help combat all the spam calls that are going on today will help. I’ve been a T-Mobile customer for a few years now, and I love how they keep adding things like this to the service. I don’t like how they have been selling our privacy, but it turns out all the major carriers have been.
I know that this won’t cut down on all the spam calls, and it will probably just force those callers to find other ways to annoy us, but I like the fight.
To combat the spam calls, I’ve downloaded an app called Hiya. iOS has allowed apps like this to help cut down on the spam calls. It took a while, but it seems to have really helped me cut down on the missed calls.
I’ve also used T-Mobiles Scam Block for a while now as well. It’s all added up to help ease up the spam.
