Robin

Business men climbing up the stairs

Greed ran rampant. So many people strived to make it, not caring who they stepped over to get there.

Of course, that was nothing new. History is littered with the Haves using the have-nots. Sprinkled in were those like Lennon, Gandhi, Lupin, or Robin Hood, who tried to bring balance.

Robin saw the irony in his name. He wondered if his parents had planned this future. Had they known that growing up in destitution would create someone who wanted to act like Robin Hood? He doubted it.

Robin blended in with the businessmen who walked through the streets by dressing just like them. He stalked his target as they both strolled the street.

Stewart, a young upstart in business, barked instructions into his headphones while swiping through stock prices on his phone, completely unaware of anyone else in his orbit.

Robin had watched Stewart ever since his company let over two thousand people go because of the bottom line and then announced record profits. So many good families depended on that company. They now struggled to make ends meet while Stewart received a bonus of eight figures.

Robin had to crawl through many emails and board meeting minutes to get the final answer for why.

Ultimately, it had just been greed.

Today, Robin would set things right. All he needed was Stewart’s phone.

Stewart pocketed the phone and signed off his call. It would be tricky for Robin to take the phone if the earphones remained in, but if he were sly enough, the man wouldn’t notice until the range grew too large.

A simple pick and roll would do the trick. Robin picked up his speed to get even with Stewart. As he passed, he reached towards Stewart’s pocket. Then Stewart stopped. Instead of deftly removing the phone from the man’s pockets, they had collided.

“Excuse me,” Stewart sneered, his eyebrows tilting into the scowl that transfixed his face. “Do you know how much this suit cost?”

Robin put his hands up in apology. “Sorry, I was just trying to pass when you stopped.” He cocked an eyebrow at Stewart. “And I’d say about three grand.”

Robin didn’t wait to see Stewart’s reaction. He knew the suit cost more but wanted to ruffle Stewart’s feathers.

Robin turned the corner and withdrew two phones. The bump gave him an excuse to rip the phone pocket without the mark noticing.

After swiping up, Robin entered the code he had taken from his surveillance. As fast as he could move, Robin transferred the bulk of Stewart’s assets to an offshore account, which would route it through different affiliates and shells. Then, the money would be made as a contribution to those families that had been let go.

It wouldn’t be enough and wouldn’t solve the greed, but it would help for a little while.

Robin wiped the phone down before he dumped it and went on his merry way.

Notes:

I really enjoyed this little competition I stumbled upon. Thank you, Raymond, for putting it together!

If you’d like to see it or follow Raymond for more, check out his post and enter if possible.

Also, I really like this and would like to bring this character back, but I’m not sure I’m smart enough to plan a heist that would do him justice. But you never know!
