It’s Tuesday, and I’m back with another Tech Tip Tuesday! Today’s Tip: how to multitask on the iPad with iOS 12.
Today’s tech tip was selected by a poll on the Facebook page, make sure that you like our page over there so you can be up-to-date on all the news.
Multitasking on the iPad
While Multitasking has been on the iPad for a while now, it has changed a couple of times. Still, it is very handy to be able to run more than 1 app at a time.
Apple has made it pretty easy to use, but hard to find.
How to start multitasking
- Before you start, make sure that the apps that you’d like to run side by side have been opened and are on your dock. If one of them doesn’t reside on your dock, open it and it should appear on the far right side of the dock as a recently used app.
- Open one of the apps you’d like to run.
- Slowly swipe up from the bottom of the screen until the dock appears. Don’t swipe too far or too fast though. When you remove your finger the dock should remain.
4. Push and hold on the app you’d like also run. Drag it up to whichever side of the screen you’d like this app to go to. If you did it correctly, you’ll see the outline the app you are dragging and the current app will move over for it.
Slide Over
If you don’t want your second app all the time or only want to glance at some information you can use slide over. Your second app will be in a window that will float above your other content, and you’ll be able to swipe it onto and off the screen when you need to.
Follow the first 3 steps from above to open an app and reveal the dock.
Instead of bringing the new app over to the side of the screen, just bring it up and release. You should get a new window that floats above.
With slide over, you and slide your window to the side using the pill button at the top.
You can also swipe down on the pill button to turn the slide over window into a split screen window.
All the windows
If you currently have 2 apps open in split screen, you can still get your slide over window by dragging the app up to the divide between the two apps. This can bring your total to 3 apps on the screen.
Now, you can get all that work done… as long as you have a big enough iPad. I can’t see three apps being too useful on the new iPad Mini
Wrap Up
I hope this tip helped you be a little more productive on the iPad. Now you can use up to three apps on the screen, or at least two apps side by side can be useful.
