After my long day of work and getting through the Apple reservation downtime, I finally got home and got to set up my Apple Watch Series 4.

It doesn’t seem like this watch would be that much different than my Series 3, nor my original Apple Watch, but it does.

The screen, like every review, has said, is much bigger.  It feels like Apple has made all of the interfaces on the watch bigger as well.  This makes it feel new in a way that the last couple of watches haven’t.

My 2 previous Apple Watches have been the Silver Aluminum so the body color is also a new feeling for me.  I really like the darker feel of the body so far.

The feeling of the watch on the wrist is also much better.  It feels more comfortable than my Series 3 watch did.  This is because while the watch is taller, it is thinner, and I’ve heard that Apple worked on the fit on the wrist with this model.  It really seems to be true.

I give it an A+

Nuts and Bolts

Setting the watch up was actually fast.  It was about 2 hours faster than updating my Series 3 to watchOS 5, but that’s beside the point.

Everything feels just the slightest bit quicker.  It might be the 64-bit chip inside, or just because its new, but everything seems good so far.

I’m really liking that the crown of the watch has haptic feedback now.  The crown seems to feel much better in general, but the taps as you scroll through a list just give it that authentic feeling.  It’s hard to describe, but it’s really interesting to feel.

I haven’t had too many notifications yet, but I hear that the Taptic Engine has been improved.  It might just be because of the way that the watch sits on your arm now, but I’m going to try and pay attention to it as I go.

The speakers on the watch are definitely better as well.  They have some real volume to them.  You could use it for a phone call and not have to hold it by your ear the entire time.

What if

I didn’t opt for the LTE model this time.  I felt like I barely used it on the last one.  Now that I don’t have it though, I’m scared that I’ll need it sometime.  Still, the extra $100 dollars for that model and the extra $10 a month is still so steep.

Also, the ECG hasn’t been enabled yet.  They say that it will come in a later update.  I’m interested to see how that goes and if I ever even use it.

Walkie-Talkie though has been really fun with the small group of people I have on it.  I thought it would be a gimmick, but its just so easy to use.  My wife is in Vegas right now, and it’s working perfectly.

So far, so good

So far, I’m happy with my Series 4.  It feels like a significant move for the product.  This is the best next step the watch has taken yet.

I haven’t tried any of the fitness features yet, but I’m sure they’re just as good as always.  If I have time and good weather, I’ll try to get a run in this weekend and see if anything’s different.

If I had to recommend this today based on the limited time I’ve had, I’d say that I really like it.  It seems like a big transition for the product, while still staying pretty evolutionary.

If you’re thinking of getting one, at this point, I’d say get it.
