According to a report from MacRumors.com new AirPods were listed to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group’s database on November 1st.

While this doesn’t mean anything other than that they’ve been added to the database, that does prove that they are a thing that is currently being worked on.

In fact, the first generation AirPods were added to the database on November 20, 2016 before they went on sell December 13 of the same year.

So indicators are looking promising that they might still be coming.

How will they be release?

While it’s interesting that they weren’t mentioned at the last Apple Event it wouldn’t be unprecedented for Apple to announce and release an update to a product without an Event.

Apple released the updated MacBook Pros back in July of this year with just a press release. It wouldn’t be beyond them to do the same with AirPods.

What could be new?

Well according to the database, the new AirPods will include Bluetooth 5.0 but that’s all that it reveals about them.

There’s rumors at the new AirPods might have “Hey, Siri” functionality with them, which I mentioned here.

Also, last time Apple mentioned anything new about AirPods on stage, it was announcing the wireless charging case that they would debut with AirPower. Apple announced AirPower coming in 2018, and as we are on the 2nd to last month of the year and Apple hasn’t mentioned them onstage or on the website still, it will be interesting to see if the AirPods will be accompanied by AirPower as well.

Only time will tell.
