iOS 12.1.2 update

Apple released iOS 12.1.2 today.  The update deals mainly with eSim activation issues and problems affecting iPhone XS, XS Max, and the XR.

eSim allows you to use an additional phone number with the same or different cell phone provider on the same phone, without a Sim card.  The sim card would be digital.

Some providers are allowing you to add the addition digital sim within their apps, so I imagine that this update is mostly to streamline that.

This update also fixes an issue with connectivity for iPhone is Turkey.  I’m not sure what those issues are, but it’s good to know.  I’ve been hearing that many American are having a connection issue as well.  I hope there’s a fix in the works for that.

I’m sure that this update also has to do with the lawsuit QualComm. Qualcomm, who made the LTE antenna in previous iPhones has an injunction against Apple in China.  Apple isn’t allowed to sell iPhones that fall against the patent that Qualcomm is suing Apple for.

Apple announced they would release an update that would allow them to get around the injunction, and this is most likely it.  It shouldn’t effect anything on your phone, but just getting rid of code that had to do with the lawsuit.

Also note, that this update is only for iPhone, iPads and other iOS devices were not updated today.
