The Netflix Logo

In a press release today, Netflix announced its top movies, stars, and shows from 2018.

All the Shows and Movies Netflix viewers have loved this year.

I was actually pretty shocked to see this list as I haven’t actually seen any of the movies that have made the list.  Of the stars, I only know the Fab Five.

On the Binge watching list, I’ve only seen 3 of the series: Making A Murder: Part 2, The Haunting of Hill House, and Orange Is The New Black: Season 6.  While I have only seen those 3, I’ve only heard of 3 of the other series.

With what little time I actually feel like I have lately, this doesn’t really surprise me too much.  I don’t get to scour Netflix near enough anymore (but that’s also a blessing).  Still, it shocks me that I haven’t heard of many of these shows that are supposedly the most streamed from the service this year.

The Shows I’ve Seen

Making A Murderer: Part 2

Of the three on the list that I’ve watched, Making A Murder: Part 2 was the most intriguing to me.  Watching everything unfold in the documentary is kind of mind-blowing.  I know that the documentary is very one-sided, and I get that, but the evidence and theories that are presented make the most sense out of everything to me.  I actually hope that Kathleen Zellner could get her own show as she goes out and defends the convicted innocents.

 Orange Is The New Black

Orange Is The New Black was good as usual.  It was a nice change up this year with a new prison, but it didn’t hook me as a few seasons of the show have.  Still, I finished it, but it wasn’t a race to the end of the series like Making a Murder.  It is still entertaining, and I look forward to seeing where it goes next.  I hope that they have a plan for an exit though, and they don’t just keep dragging it on.  The hook with the show is that there will always be new inmates, so we don’t have to anchor it to Piper (who is pretty annoying at this point).

Haunting of Hill House

Finally, The Haunting of Hill House… What can I say?  I really enjoyed the ride on this season, but the final resting point wasn’t my favorite.  Still, the ride was rocky and exciting, and I was looking for more.  The amount of detail and dedication put into the show was crazy.  One day I hope I can go back and look for all the hidden ghosts in the show.  I would enjoy more of the show, but I’m not really sure where they go from here.  I’d probably rather see a new house or even more of a history of the house.

What I don’t want to see is another ending that seems to undo the entire series up to that point.

Of the other shows on the list, 13 Reasons Why is on my list, but it’s been on my list for a while.  I enjoyed the first season (as much as one can enjoy the content that is 13 Reasons Why), but haven’t had much desire to go back in. One day I will.

Marvel shows

I find it interesting that none of the Marvel shows made the list.  The entire list is Netflix owned shows, but none of the Netflix Marvel shows made it. Season 3 of Daredevil was some of the best storytelling yet.

Iron Fist, the Defenders, and the last season of Luke Cage got panned, but I have to imagine that a lot of people watched them.  Since Netflix canceled them, do they just not count anymore?

Wrap

It’s surprising to me that I haven’t heard of a majority of those shows.

How many on this list have you seen?  What shows do you think are missing from the list?
