Update (3/28/2019): The ECG has been enabled on Series 4 watches in some parts of Europe and Hong Kong I thought it would be good to update this for those folks.
On your Apple Watch go to the new ECG app. It is a white circle with a red heart rate line.
The first time you open it, the app will ask you to open up the health app on your iPhone. It will walk you through setting things up on the iPhone, including warnings that this will not detect a heart attack.
Once it’s set up, it is pretty easy to use. You just place your index finger on the Digital Crown. Don’t push it in or anything and wait 30 seconds. While you’re waiting you can see your heart rate line on the watch.
When it is done you will get the results and a notification from the health app on your iPhone with the results.
You can also set it up to monitor for irregular rhythms.
While I don’t think this will get too much use for most people, I think some populations in the world will get amazing benefits from this app. It’s a bonus to have on the watch with you at all times. For now, with all the regulations, you must be in the United States, parts of Europe and Hong Kong.
That’s all for now. Check out the video I made for it.
